For exam- ple in 2003 California passed CA SB 1386 usually referred to as California's Security Breach Information Act which requires businesses to make timely disclosure of database security breaches to any California res- idents whose personal information might have been compromised. Unfort tunately, an attempt to pass similar law on the national Jevel failed.
